Bladder Botox Injections in Metro Atlanta

Botox injection in the bladder is a medical procedure used to treat a condition called overactive bladder. When a person has an overactive bladder, it means that their bladder muscles contract too frequently and uncontrollably, causing a sudden urge to urinate and sometimes even leakage of urine.

The Procedure

During the procedure, Dr. Bhalani will administer an injection of a substance called Botox (short for botulinum toxin) into the muscles of the bladder. Botox is a natural protein that can temporarily paralyze or relax muscles. When injected into the bladder, it helps to calm down the overactive muscle contractions.

The injection is typically performed using a small tube called a cystoscope, which is inserted into the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body) and then guided into the bladder. This allows Dr. Bhalani or his associates to see the inside of the bladder and precisely deliver the Botox injection to the targeted areas.

Once the Botox is injected, it starts to work by blocking the release of certain chemicals that signal the bladder muscles to contract. This helps to reduce the frequency and intensity of the sudden urges to urinate, allowing the person to have better control over their bladder.

The Benefits

The effects of the Botox injection usually last for 3-6 months, and then the treatment will need to be repeated if the symptoms of overactive bladder return. It’s important to note that while Botox can provide relief for overactive bladder, it does not cure the underlying condition. However, it can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals experiencing overactive bladder symptoms.
